rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle @ Cole’s Italian Beer Tasting. Cloudy ruby brown body, thin head. Nose is appley, grapes, apple cider sludge and a small amount of nutmeg. Flavor is apples, some rich candied malt and a nice crispness provided by the carbonation. Reduced apple cider & a bit more sharpness in the finish. bhensonb (4180), Woodland, California, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours slightly hazy amber with a bubbly 3-finger beige head. Mild black current aroma with a hint of herb. Suggests a belgian ale variant. Medium body with very frothy carbonation. Flavor starts very black current, then heads a bit towards citrus, then herb or wood, returning back towards bc. Interesting stuff. Not all that sweet, in fact hardly at all, finishing a bit acid/citric. Towards the end of the bottle I’m really liking it. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 20, 2009 [2408-20090801] Bottle. Roasted fruit and mild black currant aroma. Hazy, light orange brown body with a quick foamy white head. More black currant in the flavour with some woody hints. Medium body. Super fruity, odd but not too odd.
(w/ others @ BCTC; Cooperstown, NY) BeerandBlues2 (3190), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jun 20, 2009 Bottle, dated 1-2-06. Pours hazy orange with a huge, rocky, white head, lasting with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, straw), light hop (grass), average yeast (earth) with notes of black currant and sugar. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and an astringent finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA May 29, 2009 Amber with a thick white head. Fruity nose with tons of black currant. Flavor is fruity and sweet, tart and tangy with a mildly sour finish. Not bad for a fruit beer. astrofrk (218), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 28, 2009 Gold-amber. Huge, frothy, fast head. Aroma: Currant fruit and malt. Flavor: Berries, yeast, sweet. Sweet finish. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 20, 2009 Huge, chewy malts blend well with the strong currants in the aroma. Opaque straw coloured body is topped by a generous and very long lasting, fine bubbled white head that sticks well to the side of the glass. Currants are strong in the flavour but never overwhelm the round and bready malt character. Medium body with lovely soft bubbled strong carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle. Need to follow up on purchase date but it’s at least two years old. tmoreau (524), Lombard, Illinois, USA Feb 13, 2009 Stemware sample at local beer seminar. Poured a cloudy, orange/amber, with an off white, foamy head, and clingy lacing. Aroma was tangy, dark fruit and black currants. Flavor was tart fruit etc. as the nose. Medium body with high carbonation. Seems like it would be a nice dessert pairing.
