Commercial Description:
Double amber malt produced by way of decoction, with approximately 6.5% alcohol by volume (17 Plato degrees). A small amount of Cassis syrup is added at the beginning of the fermentation with S. carlsbergensis. It is prematurely bottled to obtain high gas saturation, and matured for at least six months at a temperature of approximately 6-7 °C. As in the case of Amber Shock, this is not re-fermentation, but an exclusive procedure adopted by "Birrificio Italiano®" of Lurago Marinone .
Cassissona®" has been produced since 1999. It is made during the summer and served in wide-mouthed glasses with the appropriate dessert.

This bottled brew was sampled at a rating party in Indianapolis at Dick’s Bodacious BBQ on 3/31/06. It poured a extremely large sized foamy white colored head of mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a very hazy dark yellow brown colored body. The aroma contained strange fruity musty notes. The mouth feel was tingly and bubbly with a strong black currant flavor that was very bubbly and lambic like.

Pours a nice reddish orange color. Aroma is full of dark fruit, yeasty and malts. Big almost grape like flavor with hints of something chocolate like. To sweet and fruity for me to drink more than one. A real good beer.

Sample at Indy tasting Dick’s BBQ 3/31/06 - Aroma of cotton candy, yeast, candi sugar, and berries. Pours yellow-brown with a huge head and great lacing. Flavor matches aroma with the berries taking the lead. Palate is tart and tangy. Different and tasty.

My principal reaction to this was weird weird weird. Small of fruit and something off ... I would believe the other reviewers’ description of a cheese smell, but I just noticed weird. Cloudy purple, hazy with floaties sounds right. Taste of sweet fruit but not cassis, and, again something weird.

Cloudy orange honey appearance with large soapy head. Seed floating around? Aromas of ementaller cheese, cassis poptarts, and olive oil. Soapy vinegar flavours with thin fruits. Drying efect on the palate, lively carbonation.

Pour is opague golden w/ yeasty and other dark floaties and a big fizzy off white head...smell is sweet at first, salty hints, lots of funky cheese rind smell too...no real fruit in the flavor just sweet sticky cloying...didn’t really taste the sour of the currants at all...antiseptic dry finish...

Big head, fluffy, yucky chunks, hazy, great bottle. Super fluffy in mouth. Gentle sweetness in front with a hint of astringency at the dry end. The fruit is very delicate, underneath a cheese rind note. Rather shallow in flavor, a tad disappointing.
