Commercial Description:
Double amber malt produced by way of decoction, with approximately 6.5% alcohol by volume (17 Plato degrees). A small amount of Cassis syrup is added at the beginning of the fermentation with S. carlsbergensis. It is prematurely bottled to obtain high gas saturation, and matured for at least six months at a temperature of approximately 6-7 °C. As in the case of Amber Shock, this is not re-fermentation, but an exclusive procedure adopted by "Birrificio Italiano®" of Lurago Marinone .
Cassissona®" has been produced since 1999. It is made during the summer and served in wide-mouthed glasses with the appropriate dessert.

This poured with a cloudy dark orange body and a massive head. The aroma is currants with some raisins and a little hint of caramel and peanuts. The taste has some dry currants and a little bit of prunes. There is also a underlying note of walnuts and some light caramel. it starts out sweet then finishes with some sweat and dryness. A decent fruit beer that screams to have some cheese on the side. I see the bottle also recommends fruit. I could see that.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev, Dave B. and R. -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy orange with lots of sediment and a massive lasting white head. Wow, what is with this head? Crazy. Lots of nice lacing. Aroma and flavour of sweet fruit with some sour notes, yeast and a touch of hops. Medium bodied. A simple beer but it’s very easy to drink, quite flavourful and goes down smooth -- good stuff!

Thanks Harry for sharing this, we had some very good Italian beers at this tasting! Huge gushing foamy head, dark yellow once it settled. Fruity barnyard aroma. Sweet, sharp hops in taste, lots of yeast as well. Some slight tart fruit bits as well. Not bad, just a touch bland and tough to follow up the Panil. A nice one to sip on as well.

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, tupalev, Dave B and R - my bottle. Started foaming out of the bottle immediately - careful pours still yield masses of long-lasting white foamy head, poured cloudy gold with plenty of black floaties. Aroma of sour white wine, faint cassis and fainter generic Belgian witbier. Taste was of sour cassis, quite bitter, yeasty and wheaty, with a fizzy watery sharp mouthfeel - at first I wasn’t sure about this one, but when we paired it with the tasty cheeses we were sampling at the same time it was really, really nice - not really sweet at all, and not too sour either - extra points overall for that.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev, Dave B. & R. - courtesy of HogTownHarry. That picture on the left ain’t kidding - this beer has a massive head that starts to spew from the bottle as soon as you open it. The beer itself is hazy gold with lots of small floaties. Aroma is mildly fruity, with some slightly funky yeast notes. Flavour has a tart fruitiness on top of a simple but well made beer. Nothing earth-shattering, but a pleasant enough quaff that would probably go down well on a warm summer patio.

Thanks Jeremy for letting me try this! Dark, cloudy blonde color with a huge frothy head. Berry aroma, as well as some sour notes. Grassy hops as well. Thick taste. Some hops, sour berries, and some malt as well. Decent beer! And a rare one as well!

Tasted at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown, July 16, 2005. Deep hazy blonde with a thick foamy white head. Faint berry aroma of currant. In mout, sour berries domine the mouth, with orange peels, and currant in finale. Medium bodied.

01.01.06 750ml bottle. Outrageous white foam fills the glass, blooming explosively the moment a few drops strike the bottom of the bowl. Once it settles, a deep golden brew is revealed, full of small suspended bits. Aroma is hugely doughy with a dully grassy malt and some spicy hops. Very mild fruity hints on nose are decidedly grapey. The flavor is even more vinous, quite sweet, with a tart grapeskin sharpness that tickles the back of the palate. Spritzy mouthfeel along with the nice contrast of sweet and tart make this a nice compliment with the 4-year old cheddar I’m eating. Pleasant enough stuff.
