Commercial Description:
Double amber malt produced by way of decoction, with approximately 6.5% alcohol by volume (17 Plato degrees). A small amount of Cassis syrup is added at the beginning of the fermentation with S. carlsbergensis. It is prematurely bottled to obtain high gas saturation, and matured for at least six months at a temperature of approximately 6-7 °C. As in the case of Amber Shock, this is not re-fermentation, but an exclusive procedure adopted by "Birrificio Italiano®" of Lurago Marinone .
Cassissona®" has been produced since 1999. It is made during the summer and served in wide-mouthed glasses with the appropriate dessert.

Cloudy orange color, way way large off white head that lasted for ever and spilled over the glass, that pisses me off. After waiting patiently for the head to die down it finally settled do a decent large lace.Malty fruity aroma with maybe some hints of hops in the background. The flavor was nothing dramatic but decent enough. Some maltiness some yeast notes and the fruit makes a faint appearance at best with a slight astringent finish.Nothing special but i guess it’s worth a try, they could however tame that carbonation dow a bit, kind of reminded me of mead the gueze for a minute.

Grapes and slight sweetness in the nose but not much else, I mean its fun...but not complex. Over carbonated, pouring out the top like soap, they need to cork this shit, cause its dangerous just having a cap on it. Hazy pale straw in color, lace is nice. I’m not quite sure what this is going for...I think it needs to be more stable. Almost hate to dog this, it does have beautiful packaging.

Big bottle and attempted to serve in my NB worthy glass: WARNING Will Robinson, this stuff is way too overcarbonated. I got about 1/10 beer and 9/10 frothy head. It took almost two minutes to die down enough to allow me to continue a pour. Finally after using two glasses to get a half of glass worth of liquid, I am now able to rate.

Apricot ambered hue with very good lacing (doh). The aroma has notes of cassis and loganberry, bready and grainy, dusty yeast ester, and grassy hops. The taste is only lightly fruity (and more acidic than anything) with much of the yeast character dominating. The flavor is more white wine like than the expected currant. It really does not have much depth of palate outside of a note of heather and mint. The feel is lively...and did I mention, overcarbonated, BELCH! All this said, not a bad beer just not one I would likely ever try again (and not at the cost of that bottle).

My heritage is Italian. I revel in being Italian. Great food. Great music and art. Great wine. But beer? Usually disappointing. So, when our local beer tasting touted Italian beer, I stopped at Sam’s and bought a few I thought might better represent Italy. Cassissona interested me because I like cassis lambics. Upon opening the bottle, there was a mild volcanic ooze of fizzy head. It poured a hazy amber/copper with a large spumante head. The aroma was subtle: black currants, malt sweetness, some hops. All was subtle. Not the pronounced cassis flavor I like in such a beer. Very carbonated and a nice feeling in the mouth. The flavor was of a decent asti spumante. Refreshing. Good with some cheese and fruit.

Lacking in fruit, although cassis is added. Enjoyed at the B. United booth at NYC’s BrewTopia fest. B. United brought many excellent beers - this wasn’t one of them. Overly fizzy and there was a decided lack of malt or blackcurrant. Gorgeous bottle, though, reminiscent of Magic Hat’s special bottles they use for beers like Chaotic Chemistry.

A cloudy yellow orange with so much head. Nose is somewhat grassy and yeasty. Flavor is subdued, but enjoyable. The currant does not stick out so much as the yeast. Not too sweet, slightly acidic.

Bottle from tonitones! Pours a dirty light orange color with a frothy head. Nose is vinous and apricotty. Some light yeast notes. Taste is alot of alcohol, dry, has some dried fruit scents. Finishes bitter and slightly harsh.
