Commercial Description:
Extra Hop® is produced once or twice a year, usually in the spring.
It is a German Pilsener produced by way of decoction, lighter than Tipopils (4.8 against 5.2% alcohol by volume), with 11 Plato degrees. It is drier, more bitter and fragrant. Since it is matured in barrels, it has all the time and ideal conditions for perfect decantation of the yeast, and is therefore quite limpid. People who are used to Tipopils will think much has been lost with the yeast. Extra Hop® does not have the typical thickness of unfiltered, yeasty beers. Nevertheless, it offers a lot to people willing to take the time to become more familiar with it. Like other Pilseners, it is a simple beer that is evaluated according to just a few characteristics: bitterness, body (a hint of malt), hoppy aroma (quantity, quality and persistence) and, most importantly, the harmony between these three factors.

Draught @ Brewery tap, Birrificio Italiano, Lurago Marinone (CO), Italy. Wow what a pilsner .... Light unclear medium yellow color with a average, frothy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, heavy hoppy, grass, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long long duration, and a very nice dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. THIS IS THE BEST TASTING PILSNER I HAVE TASTED - Well made Agostino. ;o)) (081107)

Gold pilsner, beautiful head. Nice hop aroma. Dry, heavily hopped, bitter; fruity hop. Palate long, bitter, not so aromatic.

Draught Beautifully presented with huge white head, like whipped cream and a hopcone on top of it, over golden beer. The hopbell has to go - it prevents the extremely malty/toasted nose to be perceived. Strangely, I get a nose of Croque Monsieur ... Very malty (!yes!!) beer, very dry malt, and strangely enough, one gets the dryness of dry-hopping without the taste. Crisp finish, with honey, in the good sense of the word ’crisp’. Retronasal finally more hop flavours. Light to medium bodied, long fading flavours. Calling this a "surprise" is not doing this right. I’m sorry about the Croque, but it’s spot-on. I cannot for the love of God understand why the Tipopils, its base is really hoppy and refreshing, is finally better than this maltbomb, posing as hoppy...

On draught at the brewpub. Light cloudy, yellow colour with big, creamy, steady head, topped with a hopcone. Looks yummy indeed. Great modern style pils aroma with wood, cedar and flowers from Hallertauer Mittelfrûh I belive. Dry, crips mouthfeel with flowers and citrus. Good hoppy, almost salty finish. Hops speak here, not the malts. Great beer!

On tap at Salone del Gusto 2008. Hazy golden, big head. Pure grassy hop aroma with good grassy bitterness. Great craftmanship.

Yet another fantastic pilsener offering from B.I. Great floral, not too hoppy despite the name, nose and crisp cleansing -- basically a slightly lighter, perhaps summerier, version of the world-class Tipopils.
