Sledge Jr (2720), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 25, 2008 in bottle from seattle bottleworks. pours dark brown with a big carbonated off-white head. subtle caramel roasted malt aroma. big harsh fizzy palate. licorice and chocolate flavors. this is so over-roasted it seems burnt. this is not as thin as you’d expect but still has a harsh fizziness. the flavor is salty, in fact. the finish is tongue-numbing like being poked with needles.
Ughsmash (3079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 2, 2008 Botttled as "Bischoff Doppel Bock" Poured iced tea brown with a short cap of off-white head (rather nice initially). The aroma picked up artificially sweet toasted caramel and maize notes with a touch of alcohol warmth and light leafy hoppage. The flavor was very much along those same lines.. tangy, peppery notes on the tip of the tongue with warm candied caramel washing over the middle.. the sides were covered by alcohol-amplified herbal bitterness.. finished quite strong with caramel, black pepper, and leafy notes. Medium-bodied and strong on the palate with a lenghty warmer end to it.. came across as a cheap, but servicable doppelbock. Edgekrusher (58), , Alabama, USA Sep 14, 2008 Sediments you can taste and feel even after a slight stir. The aftertaste is definitely alcoholic. Yet appearance and aroma would lead you to believe otherwise. MoritzF (3883), Ruhrpott, Germany Aug 31, 2008 (screw cap bottle, as “Doppel Bock”, courtesy of Koelschtrinker) Clear, mahogany colour with a short and beige-coloured foamy head. Sweet and slightly toasted malty nose with a tinge of caramel and light spicy (anise) and perfumed hoppy notes. Sweet flavour with a shy bitterness, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Toasty, slightly roasted malty taste with caramel; sweet and slightly bitter-toasty with a delicate hops-character. Unexciting but drinkable Doppelbock (06.08.08). pivnizub (3900), Porúří, Germany Aug 21, 2008 Screw-cap bottle: Amber coloured with a stable, fluffy off-white head; a bit alcoholic, a bit fruity, a bit caramelly in the nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, quite light bodied for a beer of 18°; gets a bit more heavier in the sweetish-fruity and dark-malty finish. Very restrained Boppel-Dock........... thornecb (1135), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Jul 17, 2008 Screwtop! Pours light brown into a stem glass. Off-white head quickly recedes to coat surface. Dark caramel and toffee aromas. Smoky toffee upfront, more carbonated than most. A little less sweet as well.
