12oz. bottle from beer club. Nice head, which didn’t live long. From there, looks like leather, smells like leather, and even kind of tastes like leather. I got three bottles from the club, so I’ll try another in case I got a bad one, and try to give the other away. Maybe it’ll be to someone else’s taste. It’s not to mine.

Aug 21, 2008 Screw-cap bottle: Amber coloured with a stable, fluffy off-white head; a bit alcoholic, a bit fruity, a bit caramelly in the nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, quite light bodied for a beer of 18°; gets a bit more heavier in the sweetish-fruity and dark-malty finish. Very restrained Boppel-Dock...........

Jul 17, 2008 Screwtop! Pours light brown into a stem glass. Off-white head quickly recedes to coat surface. Dark caramel and toffee aromas. Smoky toffee upfront, more carbonated than most. A little less sweet as well.

Jun 25, 2008 in bottle from seattle bottleworks. pours dark brown with a big carbonated off-white head. subtle caramel roasted malt aroma. big harsh fizzy palate. licorice and chocolate flavors. this is so over-roasted it seems burnt. this is not as thin as you’d expect but still has a harsh fizziness. the flavor is salty, in fact. the finish is tongue-numbing like being poked with needles.

Jun 21, 2008 (screw top bottle) dark brown with small tan head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is sweetish malt, brown sugar. OK but not great.

May 18, 2008 One of my beer of the month club selections. I did not like the aroma. On the palate, the beer goes down a littel edgier than many dopplebocks. Not my favorite.
