JPDIPSO (4178), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 8, 2008 Clear bright umber color. Seems like a thin liquid when poured. Taller fairly stable aged paper colored head. Sweet aroma with scents of dark corn syrup and light brown sugar. Touch of herbal hops. Fairly thin in fell and a bit fizzy for style. Dark caramel flavors with some hints of light smoke and rye. A touch of dark fruit as well. Really seems like a thin weak doppel.
Sledge Jr (2692), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 25, 2008 in bottle from seattle bottleworks. pours dark brown with a big carbonated off-white head. subtle caramel roasted malt aroma. big harsh fizzy palate. licorice and chocolate flavors. this is so over-roasted it seems burnt. this is not as thin as you’d expect but still has a harsh fizziness. the flavor is salty, in fact. the finish is tongue-numbing like being poked with needles. kwoeltje (1168), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jun 21, 2008 (screw top bottle) dark brown with small tan head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is sweetish malt, brown sugar. OK but not great. GuinnessGal (59), Virginia, USA May 18, 2008 One of my beer of the month club selections. I did not like the aroma. On the palate, the beer goes down a littel edgier than many dopplebocks. Not my favorite. oldrtybastrd (1512), Morlautern, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany May 11, 2008 Pours a nice dark brown. Aroma of malt, nuts, hops. Tastes malty, with some hops and roasty hints.
