goldbrew (99), USA Aug 21, 2008 I was expecting very little but the taste surpassed my preconceptions. Well-executed clove and banana on the palate, no hint of metallic or distasteful finish, and a decent aroma.
Tmoney99 (3740), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle from World of Beer, Clearwater, FL.
Poured clear yellow color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate grassy wheat aroma. Light to medium body and a thin texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium grassy sweet finish of moderate duration.
Average beer.
Allen (699), Wölflinswil, Switzerland Oct 24, 2008 Bottled 50cl. It pours a murky golden beer with a beautiful tall white head. Good head retention. Nutmeg, banana, lemon and plastic in the nose. The taste is mainly of banana, lemon and nutmeg accompnanied by some plastic. Corny and slightly bitter. Good malt profile showing up. Nice lacework. Some tartness. Sweetish. Muscadet (melon de bourgogne) and white bread in the finish which is rather yeasty and faintly bitter. Ideal for a hot summer’s day. DrBayern (1001), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Oct 23, 2008 500 ml. bottle on 10/23/2008. This bottle had a screw of cap, like a bottle of inexpensive wine. It wasn’t a twist off crimped cap, but an actual screw off, back on top. I’ve never seen this on a bottle of beer before. When I removed it, no pffffft, or any sound to suggest pressure release, so I was a little concerned. Much to my relief a quite durable, creamy, white head with spotty lace developed over a cloudy light tawny body. This beer really looks good, but unfortunately, it’s all downhill from there. Nose is quite yeasty, and there is actually a bit of a funky aroma, certainly not a characteristic of a hefe. There is some mild spice and fruitiness, but not the classic banana clove combo. I’m wondering about the freshness and purity of this example. Flavors of clover honey with a very light bitterness, and although there is nothing off or particularly objectionable in the flavor, it just seems washed out. Light body, medium carbonation, slightly sweet in the finish, but smooth. All in all, not too impressive. I really wonder if it was a bottle going bad. Quack-Duck (1978), Bodensee, Germany Oct 3, 2008 bottle, Danke Kölschtrinker! Cloudy pale yellow colour, large white head. Yeasty and malty, very slightly fruity with some resiny hops and hints of herbs. MiP (6337), Flensburg, Germany Sep 21, 2008 Bottle, 5.2%. Wheaty aroma, hint of clove and phenols. Cloudy yellow colour. Nice big stable white head. The flavour starts off OK wheaty and spicy, but soon turns rough and thin. Slightly rough bitterness in the finish.
