Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Mar 2, 2009 Pours amber with a white head. Smells of citrus and floral. Tastes of sweet citrus with some wildflower hints and a more restrained bitterness than the others in this series. Nice spicy finish. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Feb 21, 2009 Bomber pours clear copper with modest frothy off white head. The aroma is mild with sweet tangelo citrus, malt sweetness, a touch of earthiness and hinting toward organic malt cardboard. The taste is tangelo hops mixing with a pulse of malt sweetness making it taste sweet and citrusy right off. Toward midway I get increasing hop bitterness with pine hops and hop spiciness. The malt sweetness in the background balances this brew out nicely and only shows hints at the organic malt notes I consider off and distracting. But since the organic malt twang is so light it is not a problem. It ends with delicious citrus hop bitterness. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Dec 29, 2008 Amber with an off white one finger head. Good amount of lacings. Aroma is orange citrus and floral hop.
Taste is quickly earthy bitter hops with enough malt sweetness to take some of the bitter edge off. Some orange and leather.
Fairly dry bitter finish. Kudos to Bison for doing these single hop brews. Very interesting. Will look for more in the series. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 30, 2008 22oz bottle. Poured a medium and clear amber color with an averaged sized head. Aromas citrus and some tangerines. Tastes of citrus - oranges and grapefruits, and some pine. Had a lighter maltiness to it as well. Lightly bitter. If I had this blind, I would have guessed this was a Pale Ale. Taverner (827), San Ramon, California, USA Oct 31, 2008 Not horrible, not great - but this does get high marks for isolating the hop flavor so you know what hops you like. Amarillo by itself is pretty boring. But now I know how to isolate it. Ends on a nice citrus note, and doesn’t have much pine flavor in it. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 12, 2008 22 ounce bottle in the series of single hopped Bison IPAs--Poured darker than the others in the series. A rich, clouded amber body with a fluffy white head. Nose of piny, resinous hops. Bitter and dry in the smell alone. Flavor not as potent as nose might lead one to believe. Grapefruit pine stereotype is true here. Somewhat chalky, bitterness-laden and creamy caramel finish. Pretty good, but not the best single hopped IPA in the series. fakepurseninja (773), Washington, USA Sep 15, 2007 Decent, texbook IPA. Nice hop flavor with a caramel , medium bodied malt. I love this single hop series - really gives you a good impression of what each ingredient brings to the drink. This does highlight the alpha acid as it is very astringent and bitter. Heavy pine needle and grapefruit peel. Not a big fan of the Amarillo hop, single or in blends. really decent organic ale. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Sep 10, 2007 Bottle. Amber beer with a cream-colored head. Sweet, fruity (orange/tropical) hop aroma. Red grapefruit, orange, tropical fruit flavor with backing caramel. Lingering grapefruit and pine. Medium body. Decent/good bitterness. Nice.
