Commercial Description:
Our Bison 2005 Barleywine Ale is in the traditional English style. Its original gravity was 1.092 using 4 organic malts. We enjoy hints of toffee in it balance of rich malty flavor and good bitterness.

22 oz Bomber-Trade w/Snojerk321. Cloudy copper color w/no head. Sweet aroma. Flavors of candied sugar, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, butter & brown sugar. Kind of sweet & light. Not a real complex barleywine which will curl your toes or knock your socks off, one which is an easy drinking, enjoyable, sip it all night brew. Alcohol is well hidden so this one could get you in trouble. Thanks Torry!

Tasted at the 5th Annual (2008) Triple Rock Firkin Fest. This barleywine pours a slightly hazy brown amber color. Small sized head. Aroma is caramel and sweet. A medium to lighter bodied barley wine. The malts are caramel and toffee. The hops are earthy and herbal. A malty barley wine, if anything it’s a little too malty, not a lot of complexity. Soft carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

A- Pours a muddy colored brown. Reminds me of homemade cider. Thick head that reminiscent of oatmeal. S- Smells very sweet, malts, flowers. T- Tastes of coffee, oatmeal, burnt hops. Slight alcohol tinge M- Thick mouthfeel that feels just about right going down. D- Very drinkable. Sipping beer because of the high alcohol content but i could drink this all night.

22 oz bottle. Poured a cloudy copper color with a minimal and quickly dissipating head. The alcohol seemed to overwhelm the sweet, buttery, carmel taste. Barely detect any hops. The flavors seemed to come more to balance as it warmed up a bit. Slightly oily mouthfeel and warmed me up a bit.

Pours a dark copper color with a slight beige head. Aroma is mostly caramel. This one was lighter than typical barleywines. Tastes of semi-sweet caramel, some sweet dark fruits, and little bitter hop. Finishes lighter and cleaner than most barleywines.

Drank it on cask at the Firkin Festival in Triple Rock. Really captured the oak character, and also enjoyed the hops at the end, nice biterness

Poured at firken fest a cloudy golden orange a slight glimpse of an off white head. Aromas of slightly floral and apricot fruity hops. Not very interesting in the flavor profile, starts with citrusy floral hop and ends with a little of the same. In between the hops are a lot of sweet apricot fruitiness, touch of caramel and maybe bubblegum with an alcohol kick and warmth. Ok, but I would choose another BW if it were available.

Orlando, Fl. - Knightly Spirits - 22 oz bomber. Murky dark orange, burnt copper pour, quickly dissipating slightly off-white head. Fresh, fragrant, fruity aroma with hints of fruit salad, some juicy fruit gum. Chewy flavor, spearmint, toffee, mild citrusy grapefruit accents. Decent - but missing that oomph of flavor that a barley wine is expected to deliver. Mouthfeel is creamy is sufficiently thick. Holds its high ABV quite well. Might improve a bit after being laid down for a while.
