Pours BLACK, with a sort of khaki head. Head is very small though. Smells of bold chocolate and I could smell some burnt/smokiness. Flavor is of baker’s chocolate and dark fruits, really bold flavor. Gets better as it warms, has a dry bitter finish, definitely not very sweet for a chocolate stout. Lighter bodied than I prefer but the bold flavor and bitterness makes up for it mostly. Comes off as a little one dimensional. a nice one anyway.

pours murky dark with little to no head. Toasted malted chocolate, toffee aromas fall off the glass and mix with vanilla, and butterscotch, along with a distant dusty whiff of hops. The body itslef is a little thinner than expected, yet there is a clingy oily quality which sticks to the mouth; this yeilds a bittering and drying hop quality buoyed by a woody chocolate and mocha touch. Not too bad, but it fell a little shorter than I had hoped.

Bomber. Opened with a significant pfft. Poured clear, deep cherry-tinted brown with an explosive cap of medium brown head. The aroma picked up lightly-roasted and sweeter chocolates with dried coffee grounds, a little hay, and some freshly-sliced young sapling (couldn’t figure out how to phrase that, but there was a young, bright, pine or woody presence).. however it sounds above, I did truly enjoy the aroma. The flavor didn’t hold up as well.. sweeter, lightly-roasted chocolates and mildly sour darker fruit skins upfront with tacky, dried cocoa and a pinch of molasses toward the back-end.. mild coffee and pine bitterness.. kind of an ugly, darker, and dirty feel and finish. Medium-bodied with decent hop balance, but left an ugly impression at the finish. This had its flaws, but in the grand scheme of things it was pretty good.

Overall nice beer. Chocolate coffee nose and dark chocolate taste. Is a decent beer although there are a few better Young’s double chocolate comes to mind.

Bottle. Poured very deep brown with a thick brown head. roasted chocolate malt, coffee, and cocoa aroma. Bittersweet chocolate finish, with a long cocoa finish. Fairly thin bodied.

22oz. I was happy to see this at Cap N Cork, as I always stop by the Bison Brewery when I’m in Berkeley. This is one good chocalate stout.
