Value has to go into this rating, b/c at $4, its a decent beer. Dark brown in color with a tan head. Strong nose of burnt chocolate and roast. Light bodied and a little fizzy with lots of chocolate and burnt flavors. A very drinkable and decent stout. drewbeerme (2282), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 6, 2007 Bottle. Pour is dark brown, kinda syrupy as it pours and not much going on in terms of head or carbonation. A little bit of scummy looking small bubbles on the surface, but that’s it. Aromas are quite pleasant, of chocolate malt, with a bit of a smokey peat presence lingering in the background. That said, the smells are a little subtle. Flavor is heavy of roasted malt... the smoke/peat comes through strong, too. The cocoa is definitely present, but the other flavors seem to take center stage. Comes off as a bit watery/weak and doesn’t finish strong, which is a shame. BuckeyeBoy (1670), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2007 From a 12 oz bottle this poured very dark back with big tan head and decent lacing. Not a real heavy mouthfeel and flaoors of chocolate and roasted malts. Finish is nice with a touch of citrus hops. This is not Rogue Chocolate Stout, but then what is. Very well done. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 20, 2007 I really liked this stout. Kind of a sweet stout base, approaching a foreign. Strongly chocolatey and strangely refreshing. Went well with a burger and fries, so it was not too heavily bodied. Nutty, chocolatey, roasty, lightly fruity. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 19, 2007 From a 22 oz. bomber bottle, a short blurb along the right side of label, no freshness date, sampled at cellar temperature in a pint glass.
Poured a dark blackish stout brown with a foamy, bubbly topped tan head, decent retention, very minimal amount of sticking.
Aromas of roasted chocolate malts, powdery cocoa, light cherry fruitiness and a hint of liquid smoke.
Moderate carbonation and a watery body, bit of a letdown, softly crisp, dryish, thin medium bodied mouthfeel.
Thin tasting, watery roasted malts that give off a cold coffee earthy bitterness, a light cocoa chocolate flavor, a watery fruitiness in the middle, once again, watery smoky nuttiness, and a dryish, malt bitter finish.
For me, the nose was promising, then a disappointment after that, thin and watery are the two words that come to mind, doesn’t measure up to a classic like the Rogue Chocolate Stout.
