Black pour with chestnut highlights, small fine bubbled light brown head. Huge aroma of chocolate and roasted malt with a powdery cocoa overtone. Flavor dominated by the roasted malt and cocoa. Finish is lightly bitter with some lingering cocoa. Body is a little thin perhaps, but not overly, and the carbonation is a little prickly. Overall, a decent beer, but the cocoa did get a little tiring toward the end of the bottle. Not up to the benchmark of the chocolate stout style, Rogue Chocolate Stout. jerc (3947), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Roasty mocha aroma and lingering dry cocoa. Very dry bitter cocoa with hints of mocha in the flavour. I had high hopes but this was far too dry and bitter for me, and I was expecting sweet. A well made beerstill - and it is Organic! Average to medium palate (3+) HogTownHarry (4020), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2006 Updated: Oct 29, 2007Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev - GregClow’s bottle. After Alpine Light anything would taste good, but this was damn fine in its own right. Poured deep brown with a small brown fizzy-foamy head. Aroma of rich chocolate - milk and dark - roast coffeee, some mild hops - very rich and roasty, with some tart cherry emerging as it opened up. Taste is much more bitter than the aroma - solid pure cocoa, dark coffee grounds, dry hops - the cherry emerges at the end of the long bitter finish. Mouthfeel quite bitter, astringent, decent body and a little creamy. What can I say? Bitter and roasty - nice! Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

Poured very dark, with a tight tan head. Taste is chocolate, bitter dark chocolate. A bit much carbonation. but this was dark and complex. Great! IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 16, 2006 Dark brown with ruby edges, a small light brown/tan head. Sweet Mocha, mild roasted and dark bakers chocolate scents. Some mild floral hop aroma too.
A fizzy feel, 3 sips I’m already burping. Sweet and to me, quite salty. I’m all over the scale with this one. Looks nice and smells good but the fizzy body and the excess saltiness are not to my liking. omhper (12247), Stockholm, Sweden

Sweet with plenty of molasses and rather mellow mouthfeel. Lightly salty finish. A sub-par stout. kujo9 (1078), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2006 12 oz beer: Short lived tan head w/ a black body. Chocolate and roasty with herbal hop aromas at first. Slightly nutty and sweet as it warms with a bit of dusty malt. Well balanced w/ a brown sugar sweetness up front. Semi sweet finish w/ chocolate throughout. A bit of minerally flavor mid palate, herbal hop finish that lingers. Lightly toasty and nutty flavors as well. Medium body, dry m/f, low medium carbonation. A good stout, but not a great one. Too much hop flavor for me and a bit too dry for a beer called chocolate stout. Aromas of roasty dark malt, dark chocolate, cocoa, and molasses were present. The flavor was dark malty at first, then giving way to a big cocoa element and some hazelnutty hints. Gets drier and more roasty and chocolatey as it warms. This one was a nice surprise.
