Sweet with plenty of molasses and rather mellow mouthfeel. Lightly salty finish. A sub-par stout. kujo9 (1079), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2006 12 oz beer: Short lived tan head w/ a black body. Chocolate and roasty with herbal hop aromas at first. Slightly nutty and sweet as it warms with a bit of dusty malt. Well balanced w/ a brown sugar sweetness up front. Semi sweet finish w/ chocolate throughout. A bit of minerally flavor mid palate, herbal hop finish that lingers. Lightly toasty and nutty flavors as well. Medium body, dry m/f, low medium carbonation. A good stout, but not a great one. Too much hop flavor for me and a bit too dry for a beer called chocolate stout. Aromas of roasty dark malt, dark chocolate, cocoa, and molasses were present. The flavor was dark malty at first, then giving way to a big cocoa element and some hazelnutty hints. Gets drier and more roasty and chocolatey as it warms. This one was a nice surprise. Dogbrick (2907), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2006 Thanks to Darkover for the hookup. Dark brown/black with a thick and foamy dark brown head that lasts a long time. Decent lacing. Very appealing look all around. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Body seems rich at first then suddenly becomes a little watery. Cocoa and chocolatey malt flavors are pretty strong, with a bit of coffee thrown in too. The finish is moderately bitter coffee. All in all above average. Firemoose15 (542), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Bottle, courtesy Degarth. Aroma coffee and cocoa, roast malts. Poure was a deep dark brownish black with a chocolatey foamy head that disappated quite quickly. Flavor was good, primarily coffee blending into cocoa and roasty malts. Palate was okay a little thin for me but flavor was very active. Overall tasty. imrichbeeeatch (16), USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Where to start? 22oz. bottle poured into pint glass. Deep black color, like motor oil, only not as thick. Nice creamy, frothy head. Aroma exploding with chocolate and roasted malts. Like a nice double mocha from my favorite coffee shop (Tiny’s). As soon as I put the glass up to my mouth, it and my nose are filled with chocolate. But not dark chocolate, rich coco powder. One part Nestle Quick, one part Godiva. Full chewy body, mouth-coating feeling is wiped clean be a balanced carbonation level. This beer kept it’s flavor in my mouth for for a long time after each drink. It was a rich flavor of a dark chocolate truffle rolled in coco powder, then washed down with a shot of esspresso. Highly recommend this beer. Lost a point due to the fact that there were some chunks floating in my glass after the pour. Wow, what a beer! NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Big coffee and chocolate aroma. I get more coffee notes than chocolate really, but then cocoa powder can do that. Deep black with a slowly diminishing two finger thick mocha head. Taste a little like Count Chocula and beer. Very chalky cocoa fore followed by some roasty malt and an admirably bitter finish though it is a tad watery. But, something just doesn’t work for me here. It’s just forced feeling and while I like the individual tastes there is something about the total effect i don’t like. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
