Near black with a light brown halo, it’s got a roasted malt aroma with weak coffee and less chocolate than I was expecting. It was rich and creamy (but flat, remember?) and continued with the roasted malt and coffee in the flavor. The chocolate was somewhat subdued and reminded me of one of those powdered chocolate mixes. Still, overall an enjoyable brew.

Flavor was of luke warm coffee with hints of chocolate. Rich enough to make it smooth on the palate. Enjoyable beer. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Rich chocolate and roasty malt aroma.
Warmed up fast as I was drinking this outside in over 100 degree heat.
Flavor is nice roast malts and chocolate.
I wish it had a bit more alcohol.
Finish was sweet. Wish I had more.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2005 Bottle. Pours a near black with ruby highlights and a thick dark-khaki head that leaves some glistening lace. Plenty of cocoa and chocolate in the aroma along with some molasses, toast and coffee. Thin to medium-bodied. Roasty malts and coffee dominate the flavoring and lead to a bitter finish. Pretty dry. Hints of warming alcohol, cola and cocoa throughout. Wonderfully rich aroma: lots and lots of chocolate and burnt toast. This beers got a good start so far. Flavor: they went a bit too far. Tastes likes I’m sucking on a piece of charcoal. Powerful flavor but a bit offending. Lots of acid in there too. Smooth full body, minimal carbonation. Decent brew. Best thing I’ve tried from Bison for sure. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 16, 2005 Color is a midnight brown; medium-thickness in viscosity. Swampy, solid 1/4" tan head. Aroma is of coffee and cocoa. I’m ready for my midnight snack. Flavor is very rich, predominantly of coffee, toffee and caramel and chocolate malts. Body is smooth and dry. Heavy cocoa complexion and carbonation up front, then they unite with the other elements and recede. Finish is like a bitter mocha espresso, which eventually evolves into something not unlike Dove’s dark chocolate candy bars. This is the first stout I’ve had in a while that didn’t have a molasses emphasis. Very good. Thanks to tpkenned for this birthday treat! doostinjcap (43), Newport, Oregon, USA

Very smooth, with an astounding chocolate taste! I’m amazed to say that this organic treat has passed up even my beloved, rogue chocolate stout! Congradulations of this masterpiece! frylock (1024), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2005 Nearly black in color with a thin tan head. Aroma is of rich chocolate and roasted barley. Very light malt sweetness initially, followed by a big roasted barley flavor, moderate notes of cocoa, lots of coffee flavor going on. Finish is quite roasty and bitter. Not a bad stout, but could use more balance in my opinion.
