Alldaydrinker (457), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA May 30, 2008 Pours opaque black color with a small tan head. Nose of cocoa, coffee, roasted malts, creamy lactic and sweet malts. Initial taste of deeply roasted malt, black coffee characteristics and mild cocoa. Mid palate displays its light watery body when the flavor kind of drops off near instantly. Roasted malt dominate the flavor for what it displayed. Palate duration is average. Good head retention and lacing of the glass. Disappointing for a chocolate stout.
kiefdog (402), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 26, 2008 22oz bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a murky black color with a one finger tan head that settles slowly. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, fresh ground coffee, vanilla, some caramel and toffee. Flavor is predominately chocolate and coffee with some hints of dark ripe fruit. Generally medium bodied with a sweet coffee finish. stchloe (96), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 31, 2008 A textbook organic stout that actually suggests chocolate flavor, and not just as a result of the toasted grains. Drink this. doublebock (154), USA Jul 27, 2008 Roast malty aroma. Deep dark color with little head. Burnt coffee flavor. Not tasting the chocolate at all unfortunately. Crisp lingering hopiness. timsilvia32 (198), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 19, 2008 Black/brown pour as it should. Dark tan head. Heavy chocolate coffee nose. Reminds me more of a milk stout, maybe a chocolate milk stout, if there was such a thing. Would drink this one again. BREWMUSKCLES (754), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey, USA Jul 9, 2008 YES, coffee and mocha chocolate. alcohol seems pronounced and at the forefront of the flavors. winey yet overstrong alcohol flavor that is not particularly enticing. nice and rich malt flavors invade in and improve the mid palate. nice finish that is mellow. just bitter in the dutch cocoa sort of way. it is good beer creamy with nice and creamy head that is quite substantial.
