Flavor is just like that of gingerbread- warming, with some hops and a little malt thrown into the mix. Although it reminds me of gingerbread and pumpkin pie, I don’t taste any pumpkin in it (probably the cinnamon and ginger)! Had this a while ago so I am doing this from memory, and I definitely remember this beer. Very and will definitely buy again! excellent as a seasonal winter beer. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 18, 2009 This one has a great aroma to it. Ginger, herbs, cinnamon, and spice. Has a nice dark pour, similar to a darker porter. Has a nice toasty taste that is pretty damn good. Krausen (102), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 30, 2005 One of my favorite winter beers this year (2004). Subtle spicing and nice malty-ness make this one a winner. It does not have the strong clove that Anchor has or the club-you-over-the-head spice levels that Anderson Valley has. Great balance. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2007 Bottle. Pours an espresso brown with a perfect lattesque head. Nose is completely gingerbread with a cup of Joe on the side. Flavor is really nice. I am not a porter person but this was real nice. Continued gingerbread notes with light coffee and maybe a sprinkling of some dark cocoa powder. Added sweetness reduces almost all of the bitterness and makes for an incredibly smooth experience. Recommended. SDalkoholic (1198), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 21, 2007 A dark brown ale that is sort of opaque and has foam patching for a head. The nose is spicey and i can tell this is a real treat. Flavor is roasty and a prime example of how a porter is supposed to be but then theres that extra added spice. Almosy like a cinnamon and nutmeg plus gingerbread. jsquire (2115), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 17, 2007 Dark beer with mahogany hues when held up to the light. Big fluffy tan head. Nice nose with subtle ginger and roast grains. Lots of burnt toast and coffee, with some chocolate, caramel and dark brown sugar. The gingerbread parts of this are much more subtle than expected and add a little spice towards the finish. More like spice cake than gingerbread. I should drink this around Christmas. Very nice spiced beer. lamas (728), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 15, 2005 22 oz. bottle. Pours a light mahogany with smallish light-tan head. If this is a porter then it’s the lightest-looking one I’ve ever seen. Smells like a fresh gingerbread man. Aroma is of GINGERBREAD, nutmeg and a little bit of cinnamon and roasty malts. Flavor is much subtler than I would’ve thought based on aroma. Medium to thin bodied. Solidly smooth and malty with the lightest touch of hops at the end. A bit of ginger and cinnamon are present in taste. I’ve had a few other organic beers and the flavor was just...off. I wonder if this would’ve tasted better if it wasn’t organic. Taste is still very good though. Excellent winter holiday beer. Cool label.
