Pours a light copper with a big fizzy head. Nose is basil (really?), lemon zest and honey. Flavor has too much basil up front with some honey sweetness afterwards. Nose is basil, lemon, and yeast. Flavor is AWFUL - overwhelming basil. So much basil, it’s as if a massive amount of basil was accidently dumped into a glass of water. Went down the drain. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 29, 2006 Orange amber with a modest white head. Unmistakable aromas of fresh basil, clover, and a hard-to-pin-down note of summertime green grass. Mildly sweet and malty with a pleasant (though unusual) sweet basil and spicy character. I keep wanting to use the descriptive "juicy" for some reason, but not in a bad way. This is a well crafted beer with a unique flavour profile that works surprisingly well. hopscotch (5537), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 10, 2006 Bottle... Hazy, golden ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Spicy, perfumey nose with notes of basil and dishwashing liquid. The flavor leans just slightly on the sweet side of balance, but lends plenty of spicy hops, basil, ginger and nutmeg. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes spicy, bitter and dry. Pretty good, but bizarre. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 4, 2006 Very heavy basil, smells very nice, but is very differant. Bit of caramel also in the nose. Taste is very basil oriented, and also has notes of nutmeg. I’m not really sure how this got brewed on a mass level, but it sure is interesting. hershiser2 (923), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2006 22 oz bttle purchased at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville for $3.99. Clear peachy amber in color with an inch of off-white head. Wow, interesting aroma without a doubt. Smells like pizza... or a good Italian pasta dish with a sweet undertone of honey. Flavor overwhelms with basil- so if you don’t like the spice, this is a no-no, with light honey. Interesting... very interesting. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 7, 2006 22 oz bomber. Pours to a slightly hazy, deep golden color, with a tall, white head, and a good carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic. Aromas of sweet malt, honey, and light herbal aromas of basil flood the nose. The palate is firm with good pale malt flavors, with a nice back drop of honey sweeetness. This beer finishes with good pale malt flavor and hints of basil up front, then ends with light honey sweetness that lingers. Very tasty, very interesting beer. The combination of basil and honey really works in this beer, and makes for a very enjoyable beer. BrewSquid (45), Plattsburg, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2006 A nice refreshing ale. The honey brings a light honey aroma and a wonderfully dry finish to this ale. The hops are well balanced with the malt sweetness allowing the slight bitterness from the basil to shine through.
