Received a 22-oz bomber from kyzr via in person trade back in 2007. Pours a semi-clear brown colored brew with an average sized beige head that has some nice retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted dark malt, a hint of chocolate, roasted nuts and some toffee. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of dried roasted dark malts, some chocolate and a hint of fruit. Finish is semi-sweet that slowly turns into a dry dark malt aftertaste with minimal bitterness.

Bottle: Pours a chesnut brown color with a finger of creamy beige head. The nose is rich with roast, espresso, and chocolatey sweets. Nice. A nicely balanced flavor of coffee, light roast, cocoa, and a milky sweetness take effect. What a pleasant suprise amongst some sub-par Bitter Root beers... this nut brown ale is quite nice.

Pours a clear brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma of burnt caramel and some unpleasant sourness. The flavor is bad, there’s some burnt caramel and nuts in there, but the sourness is the dominant element. This beer is problematic.

She poured a perfectly burnished brown with a touch of haze. Large bubbles cluster along the sides of my glass while a few invigorating swirls produces a soft tuft of bleached khaki foam. I could have let my Nut Brown Ale lie, but then I wouldn’t be under the influence of toasty, buttery, and nutty delights accompanied by raisins, and crunchy toast sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Brisk, refreshing, and just what the doctor ordered, I dive into her shimmering depths. A gentle crunch of maple and cinnamon glaze with a further sprinkling of cinnamon-sugars leads into a plate of freshly picked apples and apricots. Like a proper English nut brown ale, she is both dry and fruity with an earthy undercurrent of toast and bitter nuts. While her body is clean, it is also a bit hard which serves to enhance and compliment the toasted, nutty, crisp apple and apricot presence that personifies this tasty Nut Brown Ale. Easy to drink and highly refreshing, my glass empties far sooner than I would have liked.

Bitter Root Brewing is another new foray for me, and I can’t think of a better beer to start with than a solid interpretation of a classic English Nut Brown Ale. The style itself can oft be attributed to the classic dry English mild, but over the years it has evolved into its own style, albeit a bit fuzzy around the edges. Don’t fear the flavor. Let your senses break free and you will be surprised at the largesse of indulgence available to you.

A decent brown ale. Notes of molasses and carmel. Not great, but smooth and very drinkable. Thumbs up.

CPLYFO 09. Pours a deep coppery brown with an ok head. Aroma is nutty with burnt toast and some diacetyl and fruity esters. nutty with chocolate burnt toast, brown sugar, diacetyl- butter, and a light artificial sweetness and off esters. Meh.

Had at Otownthrowdown. THis one is much better than the mountaineer nut brown ale. Has brown (obviously) body. Dark fruits and roasted malts. Really malty. Nice.
