Bitter Root Porter

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one at the April Get Together. Clear dark brown pour with a tan head. Chocolate and roast malt aroma and flavor. I’d have to have a bit more chewiness to rate this higher. Thin.

This poured a black apperance with a beige head. The flavor contains malted milk balls, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor contained the same. The malted milk ball flavor was rather interesting. The palate was a bit thin for a porter but still a nice beer.

Its a porter, and as such, has all the expected porter-y characterisitcs. Lots of coffee and burnt toast. It did seem a bit on the astringent side, but otherwise it was reasonably well made and quaffable. Thanks to stevo for this one!

22oz bottle acquired in trade with kyzr (thanks!). Poured a deep brown color with an averaged sized off whtie head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, and I’m getting a woody earthiness as well. Tastes of roast, smoke, chocolate, and has a light coffee bitter finish. Thnner body.

Just watched Legends of the Fall for the first time. A little late, but nonetheless, I decided what better way to celebrate watching a great movie, than to drink a beer from that state. That being said... Bottle from kyzr. Pours dark brown with a decent cream colored head and nice lacing. Aroma of light roast, chocolate, and butter. Perhaps a little smoke. Pretty smokey with nice roast. The smoke is pretty dominant but not over the top. I didnt get the buttery flavor that I expected from the aroma. Medium bodied with a lingering smokey effect. Medium carbonation. A nice porter.

The Dan Journal #132. 22oz bomber. Total butter bomb. Bad! Roasty with a mild smokey flavor. Barely decent attempt...

22 oz bottle, via kyzr. Pours a clear cola brown body under a one finger fizzy and foamy light brown head that faded to a thin film. Aroma is very chocolaty with a slight grainy huskiness. A little nutty malt and a touch of coffee. The flavor is quite thin with just a little chocolate and nutty malt that comes across as very husky. Light coffee, cocoa powder, and a light, almost sour, cola twang on the finish. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with lots of fizzy forced carbonation. This was offically not good. Too thin and alot of off flavors going on here.

Bottle: Pours a very dark brown with two fingers of tanned head. Aroma is typical of a porter, nice roasted malts and some coffee tones. Taste is stronger of coffee, bittersweetness, roasted malt, and a little smokey. Thinner than I like in a porter, almost seemed a bit watered down. Good flavor, just a bit thin.
