Bottled. Pours fairly dark in color. Minimal head. Slightly sweet, dry malty aroma. Some chocolate and a hint of roasted coffee. Medium bodied. Full flavored right up front. Bitter roasted maltiness. Fairly bitter throughout. Some bitter hoppiness in the finish. Not bad.

Brown with light edges and a tannish head. Spotty lacing. Some roast in the nose that is slightly astringent. Cocoa is present as well. Roasty and bitter flavors. I wasn’t too impressed.

(22oz bottle) Clear brown-black body with medium beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, coffee, smoke. Taste is medium sweet, smoke, coffee, some chocolate. Watery light-medium body, really drinkable. Nothing fancy, but does just what it sets out to do.

Draught at the brewpub: Dark muddy brown/black. Nose of light sweet chocolate roast. The flavor is nice and balanced, highly minerally but it balances the roast and comes across chewy and full bodied.

Bottle: Dark ruby, brownish edge, moderate foamy beige head, nice lacing.   Combination coffee and cocoa on the nose.   Watery lactic like sourness to start, fades a bit revealing more of the coffee, but the cocoa isn’t as apparent.   Body and mouthfeel are a bit watery.   Finish yields less sourness and a bit more cocoa.   Not bad, but a bit too average, or at least just below average.

The beer after departing the 22 ounce brown bottle sits in the dimpled Raven mug a deep brown to black with some ruby high lights, the head is Brontosauric in size, the color a winsome tan and the consistency creamy, as it ever so slowly dissipates the lace forms a thick and sticky sheet to cover the glass. Nose is sweet, hints of toasted gain, fresh and pleasant to the senses, start is sweet, the malt profile decent and the top middling in feel. Finish is astringent, the hops mild and pleasant to the palate, dry and lingering aftertaste, a nice mild porter and well worth a sample.
