Once again I am served with a frozen pint glass at BJs, sometimes this pisses me off so much, why don’t I learn to ask for a room temp glass; I still can’t believe they make good beer and choose to abuse it so. Anyway, the beer sits a lightly hazy, full amber color with copper highlights and a wispy pale head. The aroma smells predominantly of sweet crystal-type malts; I get notes of caramel, toffee, and a bit of raisin like fruit notes. I also get hints of phenolic smoke towards the end of the aromatics, but the beer might need to warm up a bit more for this to really open up.

The beer taste a lot drier than the nose suggests; it does still have notes of sweet caramel, toffee and the raisin like fruit notes. The body is medium, if perhaps a tad thin. There is a certain phenolic note that carries throughout this beer; perhaps it is that touch of peat smoked malt that makes itself subtly known. As the beer warms up both the peat and the sweet malt notes become more pronounced; they remain with the same relative balance though.

This beer really starts to open up and become more satisfying as the beer warms up. I like the extra hint of complexity that the smoke adds to what is otherwise a simple crystal malt driven flavor profile.

Tap. Had the aroma of a barnyard on a cold crsip winter morning in the midwest. Light amber body with off white head. Flvor was of light malty sweetness and fruit flavor. Smooth easy drink on palate. Decent beer,

Draught. Poured a dark amber with a nice thick head and good lacing. Aroma and flavor of sweet malt and overly ripe fruit with a bit of a watery body.
