Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Aug 24, 2008 Draught, Boulder Strong Ale Fest 2008.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is medium yellow.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), with notes of perfume, banana, and alcohol.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Too syrupy sweet for me to think of it as a tripel. Couldn’t find much in the nose, not even the spicing (which, again, isn’t something I find appropriate for tripels, so I was relieved they weren’t very noticeable). BeerandBlues2 (3198), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 15, 2008 Draught at 6th Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours clear yellow with a spare white head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (grain, hay, straw), average hops (flowers, grass), heavy yeast (horse blanket, barnyard, earth) with notes of apple and pear. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.
