Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 21, 2009 Sampled @ 9th AZ Strong Beer Festival on cask. Aroma and flavor were the same a dose of coffee. Still have some of a coconut cask porter on the palate and this was a good compliment to it. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Feb 17, 2006 Hand-pulled cask at BJ’s in Boulder, CO. The beer poured a dark amber-brown color with a tan, foamy, mostly lasting head. The aroma was dominated by the scent of highly acidic coffee with strong notes of coffee liquor and milk chocolate and a moderate note of caramel. Moderate hop note of pine and a miscellaneous trace of peach. The flavor was moderately acidic/tangy, lightly bitter with a short, lightly sour finish. The body was medium, the texture was watery, the carbonation was flat and there was a light alcoholic warmth in the finish. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Feb 5, 2006 Hand-pulled, cask at BJ’s in Boulder. Pours dark brown to black with a tall foamy off-white head. Aroma is strongly dark roasted coffee and malt (cookie, maple, molasses) and trace yeast. Lightly sweet flavor of dark coffee and chocolate, caramel, slighlty bitter and sour. Dark bodied and creamy yet thin and oily palate. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Feb 3, 2006 Draught (cask), BJs Boulder.
Head is mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (coffee, roasted grain, nuts, caramel), with a light note of cherry.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation.
Nice coffee-rich aroma, but as with most cask brews, fairly tart. That kept it from being as enjoyable as it could have been, as I tend not to like sourness in porters and stouts.
