Nose of sugary chocolates and liquorish. Aroma of alcohol is also present. Distinctive Baltic porter flavor with thin carbonation and rich nutty, caramel hints. Finished a little hot, but overall, quite enjoyable. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA

Pours dark brown with a faint light brown head that doesn’t last. Smells of molasses, licorice, sweet chocolate, earthy. Tastes earthy and boozy with some caramel and syrup qualities. Some dates peak through eventually but not as exciting as some of the others tried alongside this. scrizzz (1320), kirkland, Washington, USA

Aroma is of dark plum, more like a port than a porter, then as the beer opens up goes to raisin, then fades into a bready roasty tone. Appearance is dark hazy brown with a medium tan head. Flavor is fruity sweet malt forward with caramel, smooth roast toffee, nutty, dark dried currant and no hop character. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied with a powdered grainy feel throughout the mouth; warm. Overall, very cool and complex, like a strong aged winter warmer; possibly the best porter I’ve had this year. Excellent balance between the sweet aspects and the lingering smokey bitterness. Not big or overwhelming in the flavor profile, but this is one example where that ’s not necessary to be excellent. Aroma is light, misty and sea-breezy in feel, in a category beyond chocolate and into fudge. Rich, creamy and smooth. Fits right in with what I love about this sub-style.
