pours black with a hint of red when put up to the light, medium size khaki head.
smells is strong, coffee, dark chocolate, tar, and a little bit of peanut britle.
taste is chalky, like hot chocolate mix, thick, espresso, bakers chocolate, very fant on the alcohol for having 9.4%.
overall this brew is good, leaves the mouth dry and with a moca aftertaste. bhensonb (4365), Woodland, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 10, 2007 Aroma of toasted dark malt. Nearly opaque dark brown color with a tan head that is substantial. A bit thin in body. Starts with coffee, followed by toffee. Definite toffee candy sweet. The finish is not dry, and the toffee flavor persists. Interesting, but something of a one note. Not that there might not be hidden complexity, just not obvious to me. drewbeerme (2306), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Aug 2, 2007 For the price this is a great beer.
This is a heavy hitter at 9.4%. Upon sipping this magnificent porter I was astonished by how well the alcohol was hidden. I would have guessed that this beer is around 6% if not for the label clearly stating the ABV. As others have stated, this beer does have a red hue to it. It looks very promising sitting in my tulip glass. The taste is a bit sweet for my liking but very palatable at the same time. This is a porter all beer geeks should try at least once. Keep in mind that I am rating this not only based on overall enjoyment but price. Kalli (480), Falun, Sweden

Good alternative to port wine. Seems like less than 9.4%. Good "date" beer. holdenn (1444), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 17, 2007 Bottled thanks to drewbeerme. Pours a brown black with a beige head. Nose of brown sugar and alcohol. A little bready with chocolate and grain. Chocolate and brown sugar dominates the flavor, molasses, slightly burnt but overly sweet and doughy.
