Some roasted bitterness, too, but too sweet for my liking. Some warming alcohol in the finish. argo0 (6987), Washington DC, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 10, 2006 500ml bottle. Aroma: Dark fruit, mostly cherries and raisins. Molasses and light coffee. A bit of roasted nuts and licorice. Alcohol is a little boozy. Appearance: Dark brown with small ruby highlights. Medium beige head was full and rocky with good retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Medium malt sweetness. Some dried cherries. Bit of a metallic twang. Coffee and licorice. Medium dry finish. Alcohol is up front but not unpleasant. Palate: Medium bodied and a bit watery. Medium carbonation. Alcohol warmth in back of mouth. Overall: A decent brew with some nice flavors, but not great. Mouthfeel was too light, and the metallic flavor was not very pleasant. voota (765), Melbourne, Australia
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Pours jet black with a creamy brown head, good lace and retention. Aroma of coffee, chip fat and cheap scotch. The beer is very smooth in the mouth until some funny flavours come through... it took me a while to put my finger on it, but there was definitely phenolic flavours of Salicylic acid, other than that there is some weak roast malt and raw alcohol. Finish is slightly phenolic and alcoholic, pretty ordinary. NachlamSie (1650), Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours a distinct red with a very thin tan head. The aroma is nutty with loads of soy sauce and cola. I was expecting something more from this beer. The mouthfeel was thin for the style, maybe even thin for a regular porter, but not watery. Plenty of soy sauce and cola make up the flavor, a bit of cream and sugar is noted in the finish. The alcohol is very well hidden, especially given the relative thinness of the body. This is an acceptable quaff, an ideal vessel to get hammered, but it sure doesn’t sate my craving for a hearty, deep, robust brew.
