Aug 26, 2005 Wow, this beer smells like alcohol (not that that?s a bad thing). Nice taste. Bit of a sour aftertaste, but not enough to ruin the overall impression.

Very dark red. Persistent cream coloured head. Chocolate/cola dusty aroma. Burned sugar, perhaps. Quite sweet and rich in chocolate and burned character. Creamy vanilla palate. A bit too sweet, syrup like almost. Will probably develop in the cellar even if it is pasteurised. Nice as a desert after dinner I would guess.

Aug 21, 2005 Lots of oatiness in the nose meld well with hints of dark chocolate, charred toffee and smoked peat. The body is heavy, creamy and real enjoyable. Sweet chocolate, vanilla and roasted malts balance each other, making this quite drinkable. No sign of the 10% ABV, which is kind of scary.

Aug 19, 2005 Reddish brown appearance, rich fruity port aroma. Sweet fruity, creamy flavor, strong port comparisons without the showing the alcohol. Smooth and creamy. Sweet finish.

Aug 18, 2005 The beer upon its evacuating the 500ml brown bottle takes up but temporary residence in my glass a deep brown to almost black color with a smallish light chocolate head that vanishes rather quickly leaving a dangerously thin skirt of lace to encircle the glass. Nose has a splendid burnt grain aroma with a sweet malt backing, caramel, and a somewhat earthy tone present; start is sweet with a nice grain profile, the top middling in its feel. Finish has a vigorous acidity and the hops delightfully spicy, and the 9.4 percent ABV leaves a nice warm feeling in the belly, a darn tasty brew this “Black Beauty”!

Aug 18, 2005 Bottle. Lots of toffee and sweet caramel, sweet/sticky/syruppy mouthfeel, some brown sugar flavours, not that bad, but it could with less sweetness and less alcohol in the finish.

Aug 16, 2005 Updated: Sep 24, 2007Bottled. Black opaque colour, brown foamy head. Chocolate and toffee in aroma along with roasted malt. Flavour is very roasted and bitter with hints of dark chocolate. Smoothens up a lot as it gets warmer. Some weird sweet flavour is also present.

Coffee aroma with notes of chocolate, rostade malt, cream, soil, grains and sour berries.
Sweet and bitter flavor with notes of milk, coffee, fruits and chocolate. Dry finish with decent bitterness.
