Sweet, lightly roasted, malty and alcoholic aroma, very pleasing. Coffee and fruit, ending with chocolate sweetness; very little bitterness. Starts out nice on the palate but the body quickly thins out. Very drinkable.. csbosox (1082), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2008 500ml bottle taken right from my 47° cellar and served in a stem glass. Dark fruits, vinous, some lactic sourness, light roast. Color is dark with red tints along the edges, not too much carbonation. Taste is light roast and dark fruits with a sweet malt and tangy finish. Body is kinda thin. Doesn’t seem like it is 9.4%. A decent beer and an absolute steal for $1.49. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Half-liter bottle. Hey, I once worked for a b… no, that’s way too cheap. Nice smell when opened and poured; some porter malts and a lot of graininess. Dark brown in the glass, bubbly foam that settles to a thin layer. Light coffee and dried currant when smelled in glass. Taste is a little medicinal or phenolic, though. If you can get over that, there’s some interesting barley that seemed to have been accosted more than roasted. Big dark roast with some astringency nd hot alcohol. I’m used to my Baltic being much smoother, though those have all been American interpretations. Still after rating mostly lighter beers lately, I was ready to chew on this goober. Found at Woodman’s in Kenosha, and decent for the price. Zinister (1207), Houston, Texas, USA
