stefanberggren (135), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 27, 2006 WOW alcohol screams in an loud voice "I’m here" ! Dark mohogany color with a off-white tannish head. Licorice notes mingle with malt and a slightly astringent note (possibly alcohol) Great price, but I probably will not buy again.
Oscbert (243), Sacramento, California, USA Aug 23, 2008 ~Pours a dark blackish red with a small disappearing brown head.
~Strong sweet coffee, dark fruit and coffee malt scent.
~Sweet taste with chocolate and some fruitiness.
~Goes down smooth. Watery and silky feel. Some alcohol tingle, but really not much considering. Quick finish some bitterness.
~ A very nice strong porter. Easy to drink and very enjoyable. The alcohol quick is nice too. tcfishler (65), USA Aug 19, 2008 Pours dark toffee-brown with a thick, fine-textured head. Sweet aromas have a definitely fruity slant that separates this from the majority of porters. In the mouth, this is sweetly chocolatey upfront, then it thins and dries out in the midpalate and finish. The net effect is a reduction in the impressiveness/impact of the beer but also an increase in the drinkability. baggio (41), stockholm, Sweden Aug 17, 2008 Bottle@home
Apperance: Very black with a nice brown lace. Beautiful.
Aroma: Raisins, Molasses, Bitter chocolate, Ripe fruit.
Flavor: Espresso, Ripe fruit, Chocolate, Roasted grain, Caramel.
Palate: Very smooth and quite thin liquid makes this an easy drink. Very little carbonation.
This brew is just dangerously drinkable for a 9.4% ABV porter. It’s been sitting in my beerpantry for about a year and it has improved quite a bit. It feels alot smoother now. I could easily have a few of these in one evening. Recommended!
phishpond417 (1420), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 7, 2008 Pours a dark opaque black colour with a huge tan head. Aroma is sweet, entcing, noticeable alcohol but lots of nutty character. Palate is rich, dark fruits and burnt toast. Awesome brew. jgb9348 (1826), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Aug 6, 2008 Deep dark brown coloured body with ruby highlights and a deep dense tan head - perfect for the style! Aroma of a good baltic - meaty, mushroomy, caramel, roasted malt, coffee and a touch of chocolate show very well. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with a good backbone of chocolate and the strong savoury flavours come out as well - with some subtle alcohol near the end. Aftertaste shows some complexity with a tiny bit of spice, caramel and mostly mild tastes. Overall, a damn good baltic, rivaling even Zywiec, also from Poland. When I first saw this one, I wanted to try it, and I’m definitely glad I did! Perhaps this aged nicely in the bottle, but I really liked this and would recommend it to anyone! I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased about two years ago from Whole Foods in Portland (Downtown), Oregon, drunk on 05-August-2008.
