Aroma is roasted malt, hint of prunes. Taste similar, not too strong. I guess this is what beer would have been like 150 yrs ago! HogTownHarry (4025), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 26, 2009 Growler. Shared with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. Deep hazy reddish-brown/black with a small head. Aroma of grape, grape juice, dry oak - quite vinous, a bit tart-yet-sweet, some welcome cocoa. Tasted a bit like a watered-down sangria - weak roast, some tart fruit, slightly sweet red wine and some resin .... watery, lightly acidic, no carbonation to speak of; overall vinous and watery, even a bit stale perhaps, but interesting and tasty. blankboy (3250), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours black with a spare diminishing bubbly off-white head. Aroma is vinous and lightly roasted along with some hints of vanilla and oak. Interesting flavour of a red wine meeting a Porter -- pretty wild. Low carbonation. Average bodied. Good but a bit weird. Radek Kliber (3986), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Oct 5, 2009 Cask at C’est What. very wine like, and strong tannins at that! And the wine that you have around in your fridge longer than you should and its becoming vinegarish. No carbonation itself. Reddish black. I do believe wine was added. Vinegar aroma. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Cask lying on the bar at C’est What. Well what do I make of this? It presents with the almost wine-y light sourness of a flanders red, and yet has interesting nuances of mineral and light herbs over the fairly plain malt sweetness. A little chocolate alnd alefruit try to present, but struggle. Interesting effort prepared with a Luddiite devotion to use no modern technology - points for that. mabel (2626), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Sweet French vanilla break oak aroma with red wine tannins and sweet chocolate malt cocoa hints. Black body with quick light tan bubbles. Red Merlot-like wine flavour has a heavy oak influence and interesting orange fruitiness. Medium-full body. Interesting wine characteristics.

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2009 With thanks to GregClow for sharing this unique growler. Appearance: Zero carbonation, very quick pour, no head, jet black. Aroma: Oak, wine, very woody, some slight breadiness. Flavour: Red wine, oak, no carbonation, not even a hint. Literally this is like drinking a glass of red wine, I’d pretty much challenge a wine drinker to say otherwise... bizarre.
