The aroma is very malty, caramel, brown sugar, candy sugar. The appearance is an attractive amber (duh!), white head. The flavor follows the aroma, except maybe the flavor has a slight toasted malt thing I didn’t pick up in the aroma. The finish has a modest hop bittering. The mouthfell is straight down the middle medium. Decent beer overall. Their usual Marzen isn’t as sweet as this. beerbill (1977), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 27, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy amber with a moderate off-white head that faded to a film at mid-glass and left a layer of foam with each sip. Weak aroma of malt and not too much else going on. The flavor is that same weak malt followed by a fiarly bitter hoppy finish. The bitterness lingers in the back of the throat briefly beyond the swallow. Very average beer. fredandboboflo (1431), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Tap at BF. Aroma of bready malt, some woodiness, peppery notes. Flavor doughy malt, balancing bitterness, lots of rich nuts on the back end, definitely the highlight of the brew for me. Pretty good. LilBeerDoctor (1531), East Setauket, New York, USA

Poured a very cloudy light brown which may have been because it was the end of the keg...Aroma of sweet malt and oatmeal, perhaps a touch of spices too. Flavor of sweet malt and some toasted notes. Not very flavorful and a bit over-carbonated.

Update 8/3/09: I’ll update my rating since the last sample I had wasn’t quite representative of this beer. Pours a semi-clear orange with a thick off white head, very carbonated. Aroma of generic sweet malt. Flavor of diacetyl and generic sweet malt. Pretty bland actually.
