Commercial Description:
Our Award-Winning Marzen/Oktoberfest style lager uses only the highest quality imported German malts, hops and our own Hoepfner yeast strain to produce a well-balanced malty and toasty flavored beer. It has a fine body characteristic of a German-style decoction mash.

Decent beer. I don’t know why they have this, and another Marzen they break out in the fall. The aroma is very malty, caramel, brown sugar, candy sugar. The appearance is an attractive amber (duh!), white head. The flavor follows the aroma, except maybe the flavor has a slight toasted malt thing I didn’t pick up in the aroma. The finish has a modest hop bittering. The mouthfell is straight down the middle medium. Decent beer overall. Their usual Marzen isn’t as sweet as this.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy amber with a moderate off-white head that faded to a film at mid-glass and left a layer of foam with each sip. Weak aroma of malt and not too much else going on. The flavor is that same weak malt followed by a fiarly bitter hoppy finish. The bitterness lingers in the back of the throat briefly beyond the swallow. Very average beer.

Tap at BF. Aroma of bready malt, some woodiness, peppery notes. Flavor doughy malt, balancing bitterness, lots of rich nuts on the back end, definitely the highlight of the brew for me. Pretty good.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a very cloudy light brown which may have been because it was the end of the keg...Aroma of sweet malt and oatmeal, perhaps a touch of spices too. Flavor of sweet malt and some toasted notes. Not very flavorful and a bit over-carbonated. 6/4/6/3/13 (3.2/5)

Update 8/3/09: I’ll update my rating since the last sample I had wasn’t quite representative of this beer. Pours a semi-clear orange with a thick off white head, very carbonated. Aroma of generic sweet malt. Flavor of diacetyl and generic sweet malt. Pretty bland actually. 6/4/6/3/12 (3.1/5)

Growler. Pours a darkish amber with a thin white head. Malty aroma, lightly toasted malt. Flavor is malt heavy with a dash of hop bitterness on the end. Not bad.

Pleasant malty nose, light on the hops, hints of smokiness, great finish, crisp refreshing beer, I had one and kept ordering them...next time I’ll try some others...

Deep amber beer with a thick white head. Aroma is quite malty and sweet. Clean profile with a light floral/noble hoppiness. Sweet and bready tasting with a nice clean finish. Soft caramel and toasted malt with a nice nutty maltiness. Nice brew.
