Dickinsonbeer (2514), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2008 Growler thanks to Hophead75. Pours a nice deep amber, bordering on brown with ruby highlights and a thin dissipating head. Aroma is on the spicy plasticy phenolic side with a spicy cinnamon character- all spice even. Some banana and just a ton of spicy raw clove spice and tons of green apple acetaldehyde. More green apple skin in the flavoor acetaldehyde, plastic and solvent all the way through the flavor hints of banana and fusel alochols and wierd out of control esters- some doughiness, and sharp astringnet carmael sweetness. Finsih is a bit slick and solventy with more apple juice character in the end. Meh. hophead75 (1668), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2008 Growler from the brewpub. Hazy amber/light brown in color with a small to medium off white head. Aroma: quite phenolic with alot clove, banana, green apple, bread, and some wheat and molasses. Taste is light banana and a touch of chocolate, with clove, molasses, and strong green apple- becomes tart with wheat and again green apple in the finish. Has alot of potential- the sweet and tart apple made this one difficult to drink though. PilsnerPeter (1415), Flushing, New York, USA Mar 9, 2007 Tap at brewpub. Nice dirty looking opaque burgundy topped by a substantial tan head & lacing. Has a sweet, toffeeish malt aroma. Pretty creamy texture. There’s lots of underying banana sweetness, with a sharp tartness from the wheat malt. Hints of spice, but very mild. Roasty, peppery bready finish. Overall it’s somewhat simple, and the tartness was a bit too much for me. I enjoy the sour notes in Weizen Bocks, which give it the drinkability it should possess, but this one was too sour in my opinion. Other than that it has a decent profile. beastiefan2k (1109), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Mar 8, 2007 Tap at brewpub poured into a tal mug. Color is light brown with a small head, medium translucence but low clarity. Aroma is best described as the chalk board behind the bar say "spicy & fruity." Sweet granny smith apples, LOTS of CLOVE and sweet wheat (almost rye like). Taste is malty cereal sweet with and a slight sour sweetness (from the wheat). LIght-medium body with very little bitterness. Actually, in general it seems this is a blend of the recent Rye Doppelbock and the Scotch Ale. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Feb 11, 2006 On cask: LI Real Ale Fest - Very wheaty, slightly malty and slightly sweet. A hint of sour yeastiness, but not very unique.
