Dickinsonbeer (2466), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 6, 2006 Tap at the Brewpub. Served in a 12 oz goblet - $7. Pours a very dark ruby/amber- almost brown with a nice sticky beige head and good lace. Aroma is sticky sweet- toffee, loads of strong caramel- from deep roasted crystal malts and lightly hoppy. Some light alcohol and fruity esters come about as it warms. Sweet flavor upfront with candied fruits, plum and raisin, more caramel, molasses, and light tobacco hints. FInishes off with a nice clean bitterness, and seems as though Joe may have lagered this one like many of his other ales to give it that clean taste. Towards the end, as it warmed, I really got into this beer more and more and was tempted to get a growler- but opted not to $28 ($24 for the refill, but I forgot my growler). Very nice barleywine- has a light american hop character to it, but tends to be on the malty and sweet side.
