| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 12, 2002 As an ex-pat Newfoundlander, this shines in my memory more than in the glass. My recent Black Horse was poured from a can, so points off right there for can-like taste. Aroma: Better than macro. Looks generic, perhaps a little darker. Taste is more interesting than macro, but you can tell this is a Molson brew. Not bad, but nowhere near the sentimental rating I want to give it. humulus (338), Salem, Missouri, USA

I had this baby from a can on the ferry from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland. Perhaps the sea influenced my opinion. Definately drinkable. jerc (3947), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

On this the eve of my 1500th rating I am pleased to bask in the gleam of your aluminum carriage. Having sequestered you away from your harness team of six, I now set you free. Informed by the online sites of beer appraisal that your home is in Montreal, I find that your banner declares that thou art "Brewed Only In Newfoundland", and I am perplexed by this new revelation. Like your polar bear cousin, the two largest producers of our land have exiled you to the far reaches of our Northern Range. The large fluffy white peaks atop your pale yellow contents evoke images of the tall mountain crests behind your image; a stark contrast to your dark visage. The emerging aroma has sweet, grainy, and floral qualities, unlike the rocky barren of your artist rendered home. The flavour of your namesake is admittedly much better than that of the liquids you yourself can generate. Sweet flavour has echoes of the sweet grains and floral nature of the aroma, giving way to bitterness and less pleasant notes as if departs. The smooth touch across the palate is not unlike the waves of your mane in the breeze. An inoffensive but it is lacking the statuesque grandeur of your portrait.
Lord Ronald said nothing; he flung himself from the room, flung himself upon his horse and rode madly off in all directions.
Cirrhosis (623), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Golden yellow body with a thin white cap produced during the poor but was gone in just a few seconds, just looks like you everyday average beer. Weak smelling malts, and wow after the first sniff all sent has disappeared nothing can be detected, but at least no smell is better then a bad one. Old tasting beer, all malt kinda stale, some chemicals, with a massive bread after taste. It’s a drinkable beer nothing great, and since I got for free it was worth the money Vertical Bacon Strips (902), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Bright gold brew with an off white cap, really good lacing, a good ammount of carbs and some unfiltered floaties. Aroma was pretty stinky, like cheap grainy malts, barley, lawn and some sweetness. Overall it’s pretty much in line with other cheap Canadian brews. Taste was malty and dry with some yeast. You can notice some chemicals and a small ammount of hops. Medium bodied with a somewhat rough feel with some sour bitterness in the middle. Ends dry. I don’t mind this beer one bit. pootzboy (1048), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Hey an east coast macro that’s all malt!! Still has macro blandness but a passable quaff with a bucket of mussels.
Pale gold smallish white cap stays as a surface lace some lace on the glass.
Aroma of grains and sweetness.
Mild dose of sweet malts up front attenuated hops ride in the back until the finish where a surprising light burst of nobel hops cut the sweet bready taste.
A fair macro lager...probably the best of the few all grain macro lagers in the east.
