[1977-20090131] Cask. Cooked veggies, yam, mild creamy cheese and a lot of yoghurt in the aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Infused chocolate milky malt flavour with a hint of smoothly roasted grains. Smooth medium-full body. Lovely flavour, unfortunately at odds with the aroma.

Cask at the Victory Café Winter Festival. Pours a very dark brown with a small diminishing creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate, earthy too -- simple but pleasant. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, light green hops and some caramel. Average bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Very good.

Cask. At Victory Cafe Cask Ale Festival, January 2009. Opaque ruby-black pour with a solid and lasting creamy/foamy tan head. Aroma of semi-sweet chocolate, herbal bitterness and a hint of coffee with cream. The taste was of bitter baker’s chocolate, a little syrupy, and some acidic coffee. Slightly thin-bodied, acidic, and quick-finishing - drinkable, decent, but it reminded me of a weaker version of their chocolate cherry stout, without the cherry; I liked it better with the cherry.

2008-01-31. Black body, near headless body with a tiny tan head. (3+) Falvour is milder than expected, mild roast underlying dry cocoa and malt, light bitterness in the finish. (6+) Aroma is mild, light cocoa/chocolate, malt, touch of roast. (6+) Average palate is light carbonated, and a bit light for the beer. Quaffable, but I would like to try this on tap with some more body, or perhaps at 6-7% abv to lend some weight to an already quaffable stout. Cask at Victory Cafe Winter Festival

Cask at Victory Cafe, Toronto, January 2008. This beer was almost black, with a quick disappearing, white head. It’s wonderfully aromatic stuff: plenty of chocolate with something earthy in its character. The chocolate flavour is inviting with some hints of cherry (in this ’cherry-less’ version) and a bit of water to it.

On cask at Victory Cafe. Appearance: Pith black, small off white head. Aroma: Chocolate, peat, chocolate again! Earthy and malty. Flavour: Mild chocolate, earth, burnt malt, cream, long bitter finish. Very enjoyable.
