Nice toasted malt aromas, with a decent backdrop of herbal hops. Loads of character in the nose for this style. A dark caramel sweetness is swept away quickly by dry floral hops. Some mild cocoa and light walnuts. Long linger of lightly roasted malt. Very enjoyable brown. Of course it is the first beer of the day and I do like malty brews. Thanks Jerc. Looks nice, tastes really good - you can discern sweetness, nuts, and some coffee. Very smooth and a nice lingering bitterness.
This is a winner. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 30, 2005 Pours deep clear brown with red hues. Medium sized light tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, light nuttiness, and fresh baked bread. Flavours are quite good, chocolate, caramel, nut oils, earthy, and a bit of spice in the back. Sweet berry flavours show up in the middle. Finish is long and roasty. Great little beer. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Aroma is fresh fruits and an earthy breadiness. Taste is mildly roasted with some caramel, coffee and oak. A bit thin on the palate for my likeing and without any real nuttiness. A good pint though. beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
