Toffee and earthy hop initial flavours, fruity in the background throughout, and a slight nuttiness in the bitter finish. Medium to full bodied and slightly warming. Full, fresh aroma of toasty malt and aromatic hops. Body is light and refreshing, with a strong hop bitterness well balanced by a caramel malt background. Damn good. beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

The kind of beer to sit by a fireplace and sip. Smells fruity, and has nice caramel flavours. Slightly bitter finish. Oakes (8093), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2004 Bright copper colour. Faintly dirty head. Aroma shows salmonberries, amber malts, slight toast...fresh & fruity...very English in its subtleties. Has, as billed by the brewery, traces of Irish in its blood, with caramel sweetness and earthy overtones. These are augmented by a resiny bitterness and woody notes. Bitterness lingers through the finish. A little strong for a session ale, a little light to be a "strong". Whether this is a problem or a good thing depends on your mood. At any rate, it is well-crafted and has good balance. jerc (3913), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2004 From the bright tank! :) Clear dark amber body, big foamy off white-beige head with awesome brewers lace. Healthy amount of Northern Brewer hops in the aroma caught me off guard on the second sniff. Very well balanced, nicely bitter. Complexity becomes more apparent as it warms. Interesting aftertaste that I think is mostly the malt but I am not sure. Good mouthfeel, sort of medium bodied. This one is growing on me. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada
