Pretty fizzy. Wow, very metallic and slighty hoppy in taste, but it’s kind of growing on me. schuimkroaat (395), Leuven, Belgium
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2007 50 cl bottle, ’bbe’ Aug 07. Clear copper coloured topped with a nice white froth. The aroma is a warm combination of freshly baked dark bread, pastry, burned malts and sharp hoppy notes. Full, malty taste, burned malt sensation takes over quickly; but the sharp, non-ceasing bitterness in the aftertaste is rather a hoppy one. rsmeds (220), Turku, Finland

Pours a clear, deep reddish amber, with a generous, off-white foamy head.
Sweet fruity aroma of molasses, caramelly malts, and, interestingly, apple.
Flavor reflects aroma, albeit less fruity, and with a slight bitterness in the dry aftertaste.
Medium body, moderate but bubbly carbonation, clean mouthfeel. davegore (202), liverpool, Merseyside, England

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2007 500ml bottle from Ron’s in Farmington. Slightly murky orange-amber body with less than an inch of off-white head. Smells kind of fruity with some caramel. Tastes fruity, caramelly, with a little roast and alcohol (oddly enough). Medium bodied. Honestly, I’m not that impressed with this one. It’s okay, but not sure it’s something i’d buy again... Poperinge (359), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 1, 2007 I’ve seen this ale all over the place and I had to try it. On the pour, thick frothy head, tight bubbles, showing carb content. Head dinimishes after about 10 seconds. Dark brown color. Smell is vinous, sharp. Initial taste is hoppy, bitter on the back end, and all over really. Just a typical bitter English ale in general. Flavor is decent, nothing to write home about but ok. Aftertaste lingers for a few second. Once your palate adjusts to the taste, its actually pretty good. A little harsh, but very drinkable. Dezzilu (212), Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 21, 2006 I have to admit, I admired this beer in the bottle and found the caption on the lable quite compelling: I had high hopes for this beer. It poured a nice looking copper color with little to no head, but I found the smell to be really quite hoppy and uninteresting. The texture was smooth and the flavor was ’dry and bittersweet’, but overall nothing stood out except the bitterness of the aftertaste. In short, I was mostly disappointed by the beer and would only buy it again to impress by British friends.
