Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
"Beers for bottling are drawn from brewery conditioning tanks and transported by road tanker to our bottlers. There they are chilled, stored for ten days, then filtered and bottled. At the end of the bottling process, the bottles are pasteurised, labelled and packed."
"Brewed with many generous handfuls of choice Golding hops, it is full flavoured ale with a rich fruit nose. The bittersweet malty taste is followed by an uncompromising long, dry and bitter finish. This beer was the first, most successful, of all of our bottled beers."

Buttery, cookie aroma. Amber color, beige head, very nice lace. Sweet, creamy start, well hopped, little roasted, caramel, grass, dry finish.

Bottled. Dark amber beer with foamy white head. Earthy, malty aroma. A suggestion of orange in the palate. Nice maltiness. A solid beer.

Lovely golden orange colour with white frothy head. I expected it to be a dark ale, the black sheep name I guess. Not what I thought it was, but that’s fine. Easy to drink with a clean finish. Very much enjoyed this beer.

Strong malt, burnt brown sugar aroma with mild notes of dark fruits and a light pleasing nuttiness. Slightly hazy copper coloured with decent white head that diminishes rapidly to cover. Some nice lacing. Malt and caramel flavours up front chased by a pleasant floral hop character and decent balancing bitterness. Medium-light body though mouthfeel perhaps a touch thin. Very enjoyable session beer. Bottle. Thanks, JoeMcPhee!

I thought the body was thin but the smell and flavour of burnt malts and molasses were great. Decent hop presence to balance it off. Somewhat one-dimensional, but passable.

Bottle. Good bitter flavor with a little bit of fruitiness (cherry) in there. Nice dry finish with an alcohol bite. Good balance between the malts and hops. Very enjoyable.

07.31.04 500ml bottle. Hazed honey color; big, brainy head. Sweet aromas of clover honey, apple blossom, shortbread. Similar flavors. Some vegetable as it warms - a touch of green beans, raw peanuts - but not all bad. Plum and apricot as it warms further. Nice, quaffable, not outstanding.
