Commercial Description:
Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

500 Ml Bottle-Poured a clear copper color w/a fairly large off white head. Didn’t really have a distinct aroma, just smelled like "beer". Had a slight floral hop flavor w/a little bit of roasted malt & dough. Some roasted nuts. Kind of thin w/a coppery overtone. Short finish, tasted more like an APA than an ESB to me. I’ve seen this beer around for quite a while & avoided it; considered it another gimmick beer & I’ve usually found them to be rather unimpressive. This one fit that bill, I wouldn’t bother with it. Inoffensive, but not much to it.

[248-20070331] 500mL. Light citrus hop aroma with medium alcohol. Slightly hazy, orange light brown body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Medium alcohol flavour, some bready yeast. Medium-full body has noticeable alcohol presence. Does not particularly inspire thoughts on that revered flask of eternal life but... it made me laugh.

A nice easy to drink Bitter beer. A golden color with a thin head. The beer drank easy and the bitterness was very faint and low The beer seemed a tad light struck and the beer was good but needed more flavor and work. Not bad but not good.

500 ml bottle. A golden brown beer with a thin, bubbely greyish head. Nice but weak toffee/caramel nose. Notes of grassy hops. Taste is moderately sweet malts, slightly bittering hops with some very nice fruity notes. Light to medium body. Mild lingerering bitter end. A nice one, but I’ll preferer the John Cleese ’silly walk’ on the label...

This beer pours a dark golden color. A little like a darker Budweiser (which is a little disconcerting. It has a frothy looking head that stays around for a while and is made of rather large bubbles. Looking through the beer I also notice that there are large bubbles shooting to the surface of the beer at a pretty good clip. Smells pretty much like a standard ale and maybe a little skunky. This ale tastes sweet with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Has a little bit of a grassy flavor to it too. This isn’t my favorite ale, but it gets props for the Monty Python marketing.
