Pours chestnut brown with a nice, vreamy beige head. Aroma of roasted nuts, toast, and dried apricots. Flavor isn’t as rich as the aroma suggests. Slightlty toasty, with a subtle fruitiness. Mildly bitter, dry finish. Somewhat thin.

Tasted 26/05/2008. 500ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Reddish chestnut with a light tan head. Bright. Raisin toast, brown sugar and caramel on the nose. A hint of port royal tobacco. Toasty malt and dark crystal-malt fruit in the mouth. A little clena is about my only real criticism. Hard water finish, with a light tickle of hop bitterness. more toast and a light acidity. Very nice drop, without the x-factor of a 4+.

Dark amber with an off-white head. Roasted malts dominate the aroma. Smooth amd seet on the palate with a dry finish. I enjoyed this one, but it’s missing just a little something.

50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a semi creamy off-white head. Light roasted malt aroma with a light coffee-ish note. Flavour is roasted malt and coffee with a light liqourice edge from the hops. Nicely balanced and with just enough sweetness to counter balance the roasted profile. Light coffee-ish finish mixed with liqourice. Dry bitterness in the far finish. Nice one.

[500ml bottle from Asda, High Wycombe] Very very bitter indeed; in fact the bitterness put me off initially. However, then I finished it and really really wanted another, yet I couldn’t explain why. It’s dangerously drinkable for a beer of this strength.

Pours dark amber with light tan head. Roasted malt and chocolate aromas. Flavors of roasted malts. Finishes dry with a slight hop taste. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation and a slick mouthfeel.
