Aroma consists of notes of caramel with some dry malt. Taste is a nice mix between some dry malt with some subtle notes of caramel and what I believe to be a Fuggles hops ending. Average body with some medium carbonation. Well done and easy to drink. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 21, 2007 500ml bottle - pours a deep brown/auburn shade with a nice big off-white head. The aroma is sweet and fruity with a lot of malt with hints of chocolate and caramel. The flavour brings the latter two notes out a lot more and there’s a good amount of roasty malt and chocolate at the top which then moves over for a dryer, hoppy finish. The fruitier notes mingle well with the earthier ones. Some smoke as well. Very nice. tomthompson89 (1494), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 15, 2007 500 mL bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temp. in a tulip glass. DE07/07.
App.: Deep copper, clear, fair white head.
Aroma: Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, black coffee (med. roast), light funk, light resinous hops, a bit nutty and earthy.
Palate: Medium body and soft effervescence.
Flav.: Much like the nose, a little earthier, a little nuttier; dry with a touch of bitterness.
Drinkable. Not a style that I love. robinvboyer (1444), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 13, 2007 dark ruby color, small head, that dissapeared very quickly. Aroma is vey malty, lots of caramel, and some faint hops. Flavour is very malty, and bready, with some grains. Nice bitter finish, not sure why this is an old ale, to me it’s more of a strong english bitter. The hops really come through in the finish. Bobsy (194), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Bottle from the LCBO. Too much malt for me in both the aroma and taste. Other flavours include caramel and coffee. The palate is fine, smooth and full-bodied, with a bitter finish. I went to school in Yorkshire, so I wanted to like this, but I guess I should stick to my Timothy Taylors. blankboy (3261), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2007 Bottle. Pours a clear, bubbly, deep orange-copper with a large foamy off-white head. Aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt, nuts, fruit and a hint of smoke. Flavour’s even better, with lightly roasted malt, nuts, fruit and hops. Dry, lightly smoky, bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Not what I think of off the top of my head when it comes to an Old Ale, it’s almost Porter-like, but it’s still a very good and complex beer. Aroma is malty, caramel sweet, dusty, with coffee grounds and a little spice. Taste is caramel sweet, balanced by black coffee, roasted malt, and bitter hops. Nicely bitter finish. Smooth. Full body. Medium to low carbonation. Nice beer.
