Smooth fruity malt aroma, slightly roasted, with earthy hops. Maybe I can sense some bananas. medium to full bodied and very smooth. Very dry and bitter, but pleasant, finish. burpfrank (292), carpinteria, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 11, 2007 This had a good ,but quickly dissolving head.Color a luscious red-brown.Aroma was a rather subdued caramel malt.It has a complex flavor of biting sweet caramel malt and active sour mash.finishes with somewhat bitter hops and barley.I guess I taste some bananas,as stated in the commercial description,but I didn’t notice it until I read about it.Has a pretty good ,somewhat sticky palate.This beer is underrated. dmac (1466), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2007 Poured a deep drak reddish brown with a frothy head. Sweet aroma with hints of chocolate and something I can’t put my finger on. Flavor has a distinct English Ale bite to it but overall a very nice ale. rmussman (905), California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2007 Bottled. A very dark brown coloured beer with a tan puddle for a head. The aroma has caramel, chocolate and boozy dark fruit. The taste has dusty chocolate and caramel. Decent alcohol. A little smoky character comes through also. A decent Old Peculier-a-like, and easily Black Sheep’s best beer. doubelknv3 (568), Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 15, 2007 A dark red / brown colour with creamy off-white head. Malty, black berry aroma. Flavour is quite roasty with hints of black berries and mild hops. Has a medium body with a mild bitter finish. Crafty07 (392), Florence, Kentucky, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 9, 2007 Drinkable dark ale with a pleasing dark color and smooth taste. Reviewers go on about the rich aroma but I found it rather meager. Multiple flavors are claimed by others that I can’t’ detect. To be honest, I find the ale’s name and humorous explanation of Riggwelter more interesting than the ale itself.
