A bit of hops and fruit in the nose, with just a hint of something roasty. Taste is a bit of hops up front, then a little bit of dark fruit (but not too dark), and then lots of roasty malts, chocolate, coffee, toffee. Fairly heavy body without actually being thick, harsh, or intense. Very pleasant taste which is as complex as the aroma. Again can taste hints of caramels and chocolate. Not overpowering...a very satisfying strong ale. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 30, 2005 Deep rich red-copper, moderate tan head with good retention. Caramel and burnt sugar aromas, alcohol is also apparent. Full-bodied palate with brown sugar, caramel, and an earthy quality with a moderately bitter finish. Excellent. nick76 (2676), Tampa, Florida, USA

The appearance is nice. It has a dark red brown color and a wonderful tan head. The flavor is acidic, (like vinegar) with raisins, and coffee. The palate is average. This is not one of the better beers out there. Palidor19 (1785), Brandon, Florida, USA

Light malty aroma, notes of roasted malt, yeast and hops. Chestnut brown, mahagoni color. Nice huge and stiff, creamy off-white head. Salty flavor with intensiv notes of roasted malt and cacao. Finish has much notes of (bitter) hop and a very dry, long medium bitter end. A bit more substance in the end would be nice.
