Poured with a medium sized tan head and a little lace. Lots of aroma: malty, roasty, caramel, toffee, dark and medium fruit, chocolate and other stuff - seems like I could almost go on forever if I wanted to. Color is an almost hazy dark amber. Flavor is similar to aroma. Is some creaminess there from mild carbonation. Leaves a mild brandyish finish. Could be a session beer if I were going slow as it is a bit rich. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 18, 2009 A beer of cherry wood color with a decent tan head that leaves a sticky lacing. Aroma is caramel and floral hop. Flavor is interesting and bounces around enjoyably. It is caramel, rye, roasted malt, floral and citrus hop, chocolate, and spice. It tries to be creamy but is a bit too thin. I do like the fun complexity and the fact that this beer is all over the place in taste. jefcon (1008), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 8, 2009 Dry and roasted, to be sure. If guinness were an ale, this is what I would expect. Chalky, dry roast coffee aromas. Some dry chocolate and a slightly bitter, very roasted palate. The question here is on the tongue, where the beer is slightly thin and lacks assertiveness. It’s clearly not a smoked ale, but there is little to advance the palate beyond the roasty, yet watery, texture. l1br4r14n (286), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | May 7, 2009 Aroma is some malt and a little skunk. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a pillowy off-white head. Flavor is a little roasted malt, something twangy and a strong hoppy finish. Not very pleasant. From the other reviews, I’m wondering if my bottle is a little off. DNF. madquacker (724), Canberra ACT, Australia

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2009 500ml brown bottle. Deep red-brown coloured beer with a small creamy layer of foam on top. Aroma is roasty, chcoolate malts/cocoa. Flavour has chocolate malt and hint of fruit at the start. Late citrus bitterness lingers for a while. Roasty and dry end. Medium body and fairly strong carbonation. A nice pint.
