Roasty, almost burned-malty, slightly wineous and oaky, licoricey coffee aroma with caramely toffee hints. Burned and roasty like a porter, yet wineous and oaky, and with a quite bitter, dry finish - very interesting and complex. Long, bitter and burned aftertaste. Medium-bodied, soft-carbonated, bitter and roasty palate. Surprisingly complex, balanced and enjoyable, without being too heavy. No signs of alcohol here. Excellent brew, especially for an English one (the best English brew I’ve had so far)! I only wish they imported this to Finland, too... turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2005 Bottle. Various roasty aromas - coffee, chocolate and liquorice - with fruit and earthy hops. Well balanced tending towards the unexciting (rather than refined subtlety) perhaps as a result of pasteurisation. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark
