Mild roasty aroma with some fruity, lemony hop aromas. Smelt a little thin. Slightly sour flavour, roasty, though without much body in the middle palate. Really prominant roasty sweetness that came out with food. Quite nice but I felt the pastuerisation had removed some of the body and character. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA

Pours a deep amber color with a frothy tan head and sticky lace. Full aroma and flavor of caramel, date, banana, and berry. Medium to full bodied and incredibly easy drinking. Top notch stuff. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2005 Dark red-brown with craggy tan head. Strong roasted coffee aroma. Hints of chocolate with a malty aspect that softens the bitter quality a bit. More coffee at the end and pronounced slight hop finish. Sturdy and good. imdownthepub (5171), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

Toffee and licorice notes with an underlying coffee note in a good thick body. Finishes off with a heavy dry hop. Good for a pasteurised bottle. ChristianSA (368), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Bottle. Dark brown with beautyful rocky head with good retention. Aroma is roast and hops, with hints of diacetyl. Flavor is dominated by roasted malt with some caramel and licorice, finishing with a long bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation, but a bit thinbodied. frink (467), coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Pours a rich mahogany colour with a thick creamy tan head. Aromas of coffee, caramel, rasins, and some vanilla. The taste was a bit unexpected (in a good way) with notes of caramel, vanilla, coffee and a medium sweetness balanced out with a good hop bitterness. A good beer and I hope to try more. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 2, 2005 Bottle poured a deep red body with a large rocky head. The tan head reduced to a small island which clumped in the middle of the glass, yet laced reasonably. Predominant aromas of wine and rum & dark chocolate. Sour, vinous flavor with a slightly puckering metallic finish. Loved the story of the riggwelted, but this beer didn’t turn me hooves up.
