However, together with a good meal, its flavours turn out to be very tasty. A pleasant beer, suitable for meat dishes. Stew41 (1053), Caulfield, Australia
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Darl chocolate brown with good clarity. Stout like nose, some burnt malty notes with a slightly hard edge. Quite light bodied in the mouth, seems like a true cross between a stout and an ale. Very nice feel although the malt does drop off a little. Just lacks a bit of excitement. rgrep (150), Wellington, New Zealand

Sweet malt and toffee, treacle, and coffee in the nose. The body is also a little sweet, but this is rounded out nicely by a good bitterness in the finish. It has mouth-filling flavours of toffee, coffee and toasted malt. sethdude (603), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Aroma is very wine-like, sweet malts, dark fruit, and a tad nutty. Flavor is sweet, slightly tart, nutty, grassy, then ends with a porter-ish note. Dry finish. Pretty good stuff. highlandlad (1265), Sydney, Australia

Fantastic nose: treacle, toasted malt, dark chocolate, Victory Vs! Full-bodied and creamy with a deep, tarry bitterness. Some chewy toffee-like notes. Almost stout-like but skinnier. Characteristic Irish stout style bitterness in the finish. And it gets better with each glass! (bottle) Garrat (1132), Suffolk, England
